At Thought Café I worked with a team who illustrated the cabinet wrap for an arcade machine for SYSTEM Sounds. For this particular project, System Sounds created an arcade game that allows visitors to explore the surface of the moon by guiding a lunar orbiter over craters and creating music. During my time at Thought Café this was one of my favourite projects to have worked on. I collaborated with a team to create the visual identity and overall aesthetic. It is currently on display at the Ontario Science Center.

As a young child armed with my local aquarium pass, I loved the ocean and learning about the beautiful world that lived under the sea. Having lived on the west coast it is clear that the ocean has become interwoven with our way of life. However, this makes overfishing a growing problem that could leave thousands of people without jobs and without food. This informational brochure and app aims to raise awareness of the drastic changes overfishing has causing to the ecosystem and the potential impacts it has on humans.

IDEATION

I conducted visual and secondary research while also taking into account the general direction of the art director. I first looked further into previous SYSTEM Sounds projects and the aesthetics of the gameplay within the arcade machine. I researched how the LRO has advanced our understanding of the moon and its general functions.

By gathering visual research and illustrations, I incorporated a retro and space theme. The brief was quite flexible so I added simple infographics that was associated with the text.

TAKEAWAYS

Iterate and Improve.
Through this project I found it helpful to experiment and to stray away from being too constricted or stuck to any initial layouts.
